Cookie Notice
What is a cookie?
Cookies are small text files a website places on your device — computer, tablet, or phone — when you visit. They help sites work properly, remember your preferences, and understand how visitors use the site over time. Similar technologies — pixels, web beacons, local storage — work in comparable ways. In this notice, "cookies" refers to all of them.
Does Technest use cookies?
Yes. We use a small set of cookies in accordance with our Privacy Policy to:
- keep the site working properly,
- remember the choices you make (including your cookie preferences themselves),
- understand which pages people read and how they move through the site so we can improve it, and
- if we run paid campaigns in the future, measure whether they reach the right audience.
Who sets the cookies?
There are two kinds.
First-party cookies are set by us, directly, when you visit our site. These include the cookie that remembers your preferences and the cookies our hosting platform uses to authenticate access to preview environments.
Third-party cookies are set by services we use to understand how the site is performing — currently Google Analytics 4. When you accept the Performance category, Google receives data about your visit; until then, it does not. Third-party cookies are governed by the third party's own privacy policy.
How we use cookies
We group cookies into three categories. You decide what to accept. Strictly necessary cookies are always on because the site can't work without them. Everything else is off by default until you accept it.
Strictly necessary
These keep the site running. They remember your cookie choice so we don't ask again on every visit, and they authenticate access to preview environments when our team is reviewing a draft of the site. They cannot be turned off.
Performance
These help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. We collect aggregate, anonymous page-view data through Vercel Analytics (a first-party, cookieless tool) and Google Analytics 4. No data is sent to Google until you accept this category. When you accept, we learn things like which pages people read, where they came from, and which devices they use — all in aggregate, never tied back to you personally.
Marketing
We don't currently use any marketing cookies. If we add tools to measure the effectiveness of marketing campaigns in the future — for example a Meta or LinkedIn pixel — they will load only after you accept this category. The toggle is here today so we don't have to re-prompt you later if our setup changes.
How we ask for your consent
When you first visit, we show a small banner at the bottom of the page with three choices: Accept all, Reject non-essential, or Customize. Your choice is saved in a first-party cookie for 12 months. You can change your mind at any time via the Cookie preferences link in the footer of any page.
A note on Google Consent Mode
We use Google Consent Mode v2 in Basic mode. In practical terms: Google Analytics tags do not load — and no data is sent to Google — until you accept the Performance category. If you reject or ignore the banner, no Google tag is ever loaded on your device.
Can I change my mind later?
Yes. The fastest way is the Cookie preferences link in the footer of any page on this site — it reopens the choices panel with your current selections so you can adjust them.
You can also block or delete cookies through your browser's settings. Doing so may affect how the site works — for example, deleting your consent cookie will make our banner reappear on your next visit.
Browser cookie controls:
What about "Do Not Track"?
Browser "Do Not Track" signals are not yet supported by a consistent industry standard, so different sites interpret them differently. We rely on the explicit choice you make through our banner rather than the DNT header.
Changes to this notice
When we materially change how we use cookies — for example, by adding a new tracking tool — we update the detailed list below and the "Last reviewed" date at the top of this page. If the change affects categories you have already chosen, we will re-prompt for your consent.

Detailed cookie list, for the technical reader
For transparency, here is every cookie we may set, grouped by category, with name, provider, purpose, and duration. We update this list before adding any new cookie.
Strictly necessary
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| tn-consent | Technest(first-party) | Stores your cookie preferences so we don't ask again on every visit. | 12 months |
| _vercel_jwt | Vercel(first-party) | Authenticates access to preview deployments. Only set on preview URLs — not on the public site. | Session |
Performance
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vercel Analytics (cookieless) | Vercel(first-party) | Aggregate, anonymous page-view metrics. Uses a daily-rotating hash and a truncated IP — no cookie is set on your device. We gate this for transparency even though no cookie is created. | n/a — no cookie |
| _ga | Google Analytics 4(third-party) | Distinguishes unique visitors so we can understand traffic patterns. Loaded only after you accept Performance cookies. | 2 years |
| _ga_<container-id> | Google Analytics 4(third-party) | Persists Google Analytics session state. Loaded only after you accept Performance cookies. | 2 years |
